Founded by Dr. James Flowers, PhD, LPC-S, J. Flowers Health Institute delivers concierge-level care for substance use, mental health conditions, process addictions, and complex medical issues. The Institute is built around a diagnose-first model: rather than starting treatment from assumptions, clinicians build the plan from a full clinical picture, then bring in advanced diagnostics and elite specialists to carry it out in total privacy.
At the center of that model is the Institute's trademarked Living MRI, a multi-day evaluation combining brain mapping, pharmacogenomic testing, neuropsychological assessment, and executive blood panels alongside a review of lifestyle and spiritual factors. Rather than a single checkup, it's a full diagnostic workup, producing a report the care team uses to treat root causes, not just presenting symptoms.
Findings from the Living MRI shape a plan built around each client's specific goals rather than a fixed program. Individual therapy builds emotional regulation and coping skills, mindfulness practices support self-awareness, and group and family sessions build a support network that extends beyond treatment. Medical oversight, including medication management, covers everything from psychiatric stabilization to substance withdrawal.
Located on the grounds of the Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa, clients begin treatment in that setting before moving to a private residential condo with a dedicated wellness coach as care continues. Concierge logistics, including transportation and specialist coordination, are handled throughout, with direct access to physicians across the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical campus in the world, for clients whose conditions require it.
J. Flowers Health Institute's treatment focuses on substance use disorders, with particular emphasis on opioid and alcohol dependency alongside co-occurring mental health conditions.

What people are saying
Because the Institute sits within the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical campus in the world, clients have direct access to specialists across nearly every discipline. That network supports treatment of complex conditions such as autoimmune disorders, neurological issues, and chronic pain, cases that often need more than one kind of expertise to diagnose correctly. The Living MRI evaluation is what connects this network to an actual plan: it traces a condition back to its root, whether genetic, environmental, lifestyle-related, or psychological, so treatment addresses the cause rather than managing symptoms indefinitely.
J. Flowers Health Institute also treats process addictions, including eating disorders, gambling, sex and pornography addiction, and internet addiction, conditions that often carry more stigma and go undiagnosed longer than substance use. Discretion is built into every part of care here, from the diagnostic process through treatment. As with the Institute's other programs, treatment starts with identifying the root cause through the Living MRI rather than treating the behavior in isolation. From there, the plan focuses on the psychological work behind the addiction, rebuilding communication with family, and restoring the client's mental, physical, and emotional health together.
