About Algamus Gambling Recovery Center in Goodyear, Arizona

For more than three decades, Algamus Recovery Services has focused on one thing: treating gambling addiction and the tangle of financial, legal, and emotional issues that come with it. Clients arrive with every kind of gambling problem sports betting, poker, table games, slots, online gaming and Algamus works with men and women across all of them. The program gained wider recognition after being featured on A&E's Intervention, and today Algamus remains one of the only residential gambling treatment centers in the country, and the only one carrying JCAHO accreditation.

Proven Therapies, Delivered by People Who've Lived It

Treatment runs four to eight weeks, residential, built specifically around gambling addiction rather than adapted from a substance-use model. A notable share of the staff are in recovery themselves, which shapes how the program handles the shame and financial fallout that often keep people from seeking help in the first place. Clinically, the approach leans on CBT, group therapy, and holistic practices mindfulness, movement, creative outlets while certified gambling counselors and psychiatrists work through underlying mental health conditions alongside a 12-Step framework.

Treatment Built Around Personality, Not Just Symptoms

One thing that sets Algamus apart: the Enneagram is woven directly into treatment planning. Rather than treating gambling addiction as a single pattern, clinicians use the Enneagram to map each client's specific triggers, fears, and thought patterns the psychological wiring behind the urge to bet. That personality-level insight lets the team tailor coping strategies to the individual instead of applying one protocol across the board.

A Small, Deliberately Homelike Setting

The facility itself is a lodge, not a clinical building no gambling, no substances, no televisions in the bedrooms, just queen beds and quiet. With only 10 beds total (two of them private, useful for clients who need accommodations like CPAP use), the setting stays small on purpose. Common areas include three living rooms two with TVs, one anchored by a fireplace plus a pool, fire pit, and gym access outdoors, and clients cook their own meals rather than eating institutionally. The desert location is chosen deliberately, far enough from casinos and gambling venues that clients aren't navigating triggers on their way to therapy.
